Trainee Estimator - Gladstone, QLD
About the role:
McCosker are seeking expressions of interest for a Trainee Estimator position for a 12-month initial engagement in Gladstone, working Monday to Friday, with an opportunity for an ongoing placement.
This position is a part of our Estimating team, where the candidate will be working alongside our highly experienced and knowledgeable Senior Estimators and other key stakeholders in the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised, focused, motived and enthusiastic individual who wishes to change career paths and get involved in a range of interesting and challenging project work.
Our Senior Estimators will provide in-house training to the successful candidate to develop the required skills and knowledge to price the construction of civil, earthworks and piping projects in Queensland. Learning valuable skills that will build the foundations for a potential rewarding long term career.
The candidate must have:
- Prior experience in the building and construction industry
- Be able to read and interpret construction plans
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
Key aspects of the role will include coordination and administration duties that comprise of, but are not limited to the following:
- Use research skills to look out for new tenders
- Coordinate incoming tender documentation
- Assist with the development of tender submissions
- Coordinate and review relevant items in consultation with the team
- Assist with developing responses to tender questions, using existing company information
- Support the team to coordinate outgoing tender submissions
- Maintain registers and databases
- Assist team to prepare reports, technical documents, submissions and various other documents and correspondence; and
- Ad-hoc and other general administration duties as required.

- Comfortable developing high-quality Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents
- Prior experience in Microsoft Project and/or P6 will be advantageous

- Committed to managing time and completing work within set timeframes;
- Able to use discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information;
- Able to show initiative with the ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Able to work as part of a team with a positive attitude.
